I really did not understand addiction until I went to Serenity Lane. The teachers and the teaching opened my eyes. For the first time in my life I truly understood why I kept relapsing, why I continued to use. I started taking the suggestions of the counselors, I stopped blaming others for my drug use and I stopped blaming others for the bad things that happened in my life. I started to become accountable for my actions. And I am making amends to all those people that I have harmed. I go to meetings 2 or 3 times a week and I am blessed to have found a great sponsor who is taking me through the steps. (I will be on my 9th step tomorrow). At this writing, (May 2009) I've been clean and sober for 6 months. It has not always been easy, but I believe that if I keep doing what I’m doing, by being positive and embracing recovery, then all will be well.
~ Noemi K (clean since 11/11/08)

On November 11, 1981, I entered the
inpatient program in Eugene for the simple reason that I had nowhere
else to go. I am grateful to say that I have been clean and
sober every since. I now live in Arizona and wake up sober
each morning to watch the sun rise to welcome the new day. For
now, I just want to say: Thank you God, Thank you AA and Thank
you Serenity Lane!

I was at the Lane starting July 26, 1994, and I have not had a
drink or drug since. For all of these years, I have had a
sponsor, worked the Steps in my daily life, sponsor others, do
service work, always at three to five meetings a week and pray. I
have a life I could not imagine ten years ago. I came here
with nothing but a couple of boxes and several Hefty bags of junk. That
was all. Now I have an accountant and a lawyer. Who
would have thunk it?

I feel like I'm finally starting to grow and absorb everything. My
road ahead is going to be long, and it's going to take a
lot of work, but I truly believe now that I can make it. I
need to have patience with myself and know that I'm worthwhile
simply because I exist. Thank you for showing me that.

During my son's time at Serenity Lane, my husband, daughter
and myself attended "family week" at the center. It
was such a great learning experience for us, not to mention highly
emotional. We'll never forget it. The caring
and love of the counselors and the staff was wonderful. I
just want to say "Thank you" for everything Serenity
Lane has done for so many.

I'm no longer homeless, no longer jobless. I have my family. I'm
just so blessed, and I know that if I would have been drinking,
I wouldn't have any of it. I wouldn't have the
confidence in myself I have now.

Thanks to all the counselors and case managers for their dedication
to us and our futures. Without you and your tireless conviction,
none of us would stand a chance. I have come to realize that
the "job" you do is working miracles under the most
complicated of circumstances. Thank you for your time, your
wisdom, your support and your belief in us. We owe you our
lives, as well as the lives of our families.
~ A very grateful client
